Safe and Smart Use of Essential Oils for Clean Body and Home

Essential oils are gaining popularity, and for good reason. They are potent plant-based oils that pack a powerful punch. But there’s a lot of misinformation about how to use them safely and effectively.

In this three-part workshop series, you will learn the foundations of how to use essential oils safely, how to use them effectively in your daily skincare and home cleaning routines, and how to use them to treat specific conditions such as colds and flu, anxiety and stress, seasonal allergies, and insomnia.

Workshop #1: Basic Foundations – Saturday, April 4, 10am-noon To be rescheduled

In this first workshop, you will learn where essential oils come from, how to use them safely, what therapeutic properties they have, and which essential oils are best for different conditions. You will also learn what essential oils are safe to use around children, pets, and women who are pregnant or nursing. As well, you will learn how to select high quality essential oils and how to store them to maximize their shelf life.

Each student will learn how to make three full size products:

  •  Joyful Body Oil
  • Focus and Clarity Inhaler
  • Toxic-Free Hand Sanitizer

Workshop #2: Healthy Body and Home – Saturday, May 2, 10am-noon To be rescheduled

In this second workshop, you will build on the basics you learned from the first workshop and you will learn the basic techniques on how to blend essential oils and other natural ingredients to create beautiful and luxurious skincare products and powerful home cleaning products.

Each student will go home with a recipe package and three full size products:

  • All-Purpose Cleaner and Disinfectant
  • Facial Oil (non-greasy, and tailored to your skin type)
  • Customized Therapeutic Essential Oil Blend

Workshop #3: Natural Summer Care with EOs – Saturday, June 13, 10am-noon  To be rescheduled

For our third workshop, we will continue building your skills by making more complex recipes. Not only will you be working with essential oils, you will also learn how to use clays, minerals, and other ingredients from nature to make three products that are perfect for the summer.

Each student will go home with a recipe package and three full size products:

  • Tinted Sun Care Mineral Lip Balm
  • Deodorant
  • Mosquito Repellent

No experience is required! All supplies will be provided, including a recipe and resource package, and light refreshments. Please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements.

At the workshops, Iona will also be offering refills for her personal product line, Holistic Essentials. Please email iona@ahealthybeginning.ca to let her which products you’d like to get a refill for, and what volume (in millilitres) you need. For more info about refills, click here.

Workshop Testimonials

I attended one of Iona’s workshops and it was well organized with all the ingredients we needed being available and stations were set up ready to go for attendees. We walked away with the products we made which was great. My favourite so far was the tinted lip balm, I used less mica than recommended as I wanted a less dramatic look and the shade turned out great! I love how all the ingredients are all natural and I feel great about using it every day multiple times a day. The workshop was interactive and it was great that we got to bring the recipes home with us too. A big bonus is that all the products are baby and pregnant women safe. The only thing I wished was different was that we could have more time to ask the questions about things like the essential oils we were using. It’s easy to tell that Iona has a lot of knowledge and passion for the work she does and I’ll likely continue to try and make more of my own lip balm once the ones I made run out. If asked whether I’d sign up for this workshop again knowing what I know now, the answer is yes!
